Work Party: Tuesday 27th June 2023

Today was clearly the day for which the doggerel “After the Lord Mayor’s Show” was invented. Almost two months without rain came to an abrupt end. In a last minute change of plan, the volunteers met to pull weed, wood and general rubbish from the canal between Herbert Street and the aqueduct in Pontardawe, and the heavens opened! Steady rain for a couple of hours was almost too much to take, but the valiant few plodded on. The very welcome highlight of the morning was to see Gareth the Elder back in harness [sorry about the rubbish photo of your back!].

Tea was taken sheltering in the tunnel, where we were joined by our chums from Whitethorns. Ronnie baked the cakes this week, and very nice they were too.

We decided to terminate our activities straight after tea. Typically, this was the cue for the rain to stop and the sun to come out. Ho-hum.
