Work Party: Tuesday 2nd June 2026

The weather forecast for today was grim so we decided to abandon plans for concreting and instead returned to Ynysmeudwy. As it turned out, we had only one serious downpour but better safe than sorry. We were very pleased to welcome a new recruit, Thomas.

Andy kicked of proceedings by bashing more balsam alongside the lengthsman’s hut.

By far the biggest task was to clear a channel by removing iris. We decided to tackle this task by actually getting in the canal. Diane, Gary, James and Kev pulled on their waders and jumped right in!

Gary had a minor mishap. It looks like he fell in but actually his life jacket discharged as he bent forward and water splashed onto the jacket. Very inconvenient for him but it did show that the jackets work correctly.

Tea was taken with cakes provided by Moira. The heavy shower hit us but didn’t last too long.

The experiment of wading into the canal rather than pulling from “Nellie” worked well but those in the cut did get fairly wet. And there’s miles yet to clear!
