Work Party: Tuesday 3rd February 2026
|
The weather today was cool and overcast but, contrary to the forecast, rain free. The bosses (Gordon and Alan) were away undertaking chainsaw accreditation, so the troops were left to their own devices. What could possibly go wrong? Mercifully, nothing at all! We met at the Canal Centre and embarked upon a variety of tasks that continued before and after tea. Martin and Moira gardened, Sharon collected rubbish and Sue took Roxi for a very long walk. |

Sharon filled two huge bags with rubbish and took these before and after photos of the towpath behind the centre. It is amazing how much junk accumulates so quickly – Please put your rubbish in a bin or take it home. |

Chris led a team cleaning the verge along the towpath – sorry, no photographic evidence of another much needed task. Greg, Diane, Pete, Sue and Andy cleared more buddleia. Hard work with only hand tools but another 30m or so were cleared. The eagle-eyed among you may spot Sue’s latest assistant – Roxi did her best to tug twigs all over the place! |

Tea was taken in the shelter of the centre once again. Andy was today’s baker, with this week’s offering being Moroccan orange cake, Nigella Lawson’s peanut & Crunchie chocolate bars and mincemeat slice. |

Daffodils feature in today’s nature corner. Sharon spotted a bloom and a bud behind the centre whilst Gary found a lovely display on the bank on the way to Ponty. |

Yet another busy day in pleasant conditions. We survived the bosses’ absence, so well done everyone. |
