Work Party: Tuesday 4th June 2019

A rainy day today! Eleven regular SCS volunteers were joined by thirteen volunteers from HSBC Business Telephone Banking, Llansamlet. Gill kitted out the HSBC team with tabards and gloves in preparation for the main task of the day – removing Canadian pond weed from the canal north of the Hidden Lock site in Clydach.

In addition to the bank-side gang, Mike aided by three HSBC volunteers lashed together two canoess to form a raft that proved very successful in removing even more vegetation.

Once the dredged weed had been left for a while to allow the creepy-crawlies to return to the water, it was taken back to the yard to be added to our compost heap.

Work continued back at the yard, with John laying carpet tiles in the office, Gareth tidying stone and David weeding.

Then it was time for hot drinks and cake – a welcome chance to shelter from the rain.

Break AE

After the break we all went back to work until it was time to down tools, tidy up and go home. The HSBC crew were somewhat dirty and damp but had that warm glow of a job well done. It was so nice to see so many younger folk working so hard.

Well done everybody. Despite the rain, we achieved a lot today, mostly due to the HSBC team. They can come back any time they like!
