Work Party: Tuesday 8th April 2025
Yet another sunny day, perhaps a little cooler than last week, saw the lady gardeners heading off to Coed Gwilym Park to tend to the flower beds – sorry, no photos, ladies. The rest of the volunteers continued with tasks at the Swansea Canal Centre. First up, the ancient mariners Bob and John Gw modified the stern of the trip boat to facilitate attaching the outboard motor. Mercifully, they resisted the temptation to modify each other. |

Alan, Paul and Toby added more sections to the safety fence. Just a little more around the corner to complete an excellent job. |

No new sections of walkway today so the chaps, including Duncan thankfully returning from sick leave, concentrated on surfacing the existing sections, first with rubble and then earth taken from the grassy knoll. |

In the process of dressing the walkway, Duncan found an enormous stone slab. Clearly a set of steps was required so Gordon dashed off to procure a railway sleeper that was cut and installed to form two steps. As usual, Anna was on hand to inspect the job. |

Martin and Aled watered plants in the main bed and then tidy it. We are pleased to be able to report that the fennel is flourishing. |

Tea break was taken both inside and outside the Centre. Today’s delectable cakes were baked by Jan W, who also dropped off a huge amount of craft items she had made in preparation for sale at the “Easter Bunnies” event. |

Today’s “Crestfallen Chairman of the Day” award went to Gordon. “I bet none of you know what this is” he said. “It’s a glue pot. My dad was a carpenter and he had one” said Bob. “It’s a glue pot. My dad was a carpenter and he had one too” said Andy. |
