Work Party: Tuesday 9th July 2024
The volunteers met at Bridge 8 as planned but decided to postpone lime mortar work on the bridge as there was rain in the air. As it happened, no rain actually fell in the morning and the weather became hot and humid. The first task of the day was to remove a tree that obstructed the lane. With a bit of help from Andy, Dave soon dealt with that problem. |
The main task for the day was to repair the bank just downstream from the bridge. Lance and Rowan took care of the mix, Phil filled the bags and Chris trundled them up to the bridge. Andrew lowered the bags to Alan and Mike F who set them in place. We reckon that roughly 100 bags were laid – a big shift and a job well done. |
On the bridge, Sharon knocked back the mortar that had been placed last week and Gordon raked out yet more of the old, spent mortar ready for when the weather improves, hopefully next Tuesday. |
Tea was taken with goodies baked by Andy. The beer bread proved particularly tasty. |
After tea, work continued on the bagging. Andy completed cutting up a large branch that he had hauled out. Actually, Dave, Carly and Ronnie did most of the work! They then finished off by trimming the hedge. |
As usual, Mike C and Sue were there to remove the inexhaustible supply of litter. Bonnie did her best to help. |

Another hard day’s work. The weather was not particularly glorious but we still managed to achieve a lot whilst enjoying ourselves. |
