The Canal and River Trust and the Swansea Canal Society were delighted to be given the opportunity to address the entire Swansea Council at the beginning of a plenary session of the council in County Hall on Tuesday December 2nd at 5.00pm.

We were allocated ten minutes, so using a Power Point Presentation Nick Worthington, the Waterways manager for South Wales and Severn, and myself showed the councillors photos of the recent work that was being done on the canal by our two charities. We elaborated on our aspirations for the future of the canal including the need for the restoration of the two ‘missing links’ in Clydach and Pontardawe. I also mentioned the Society’s vision of getting the canal back into the centre of Swansea via the Fendrod and Tawe Rivers.

All the local councillors are now aware of the work of our two organisations. To further improve our profile, we need to have more regular and closer ties with the council. This presentation was a great beginning to that process.
