Work Party: Tuesday 3rd October 2023

Another warm and fairly bright day, another session in and around the Buried Lock site. The events reported below all happened but not necessarily in the order shown, so please ignore the fact that some volunteers appear to be in two places at once or moving around at lightening speed. That’s quantum volunteering for you!

The building job for today was in-filling the pillar in the boat basin that will support stop-planks to section off the dry dock. Chris, Colin and JOhn collected ballast, Gordon mixed the concrete and Alan T built the pillar.

John Grav, Chris and Colin patched up a dangerous corner on the dry dock.

Gill hung new banners, resplendent with our lovely logo.

Martin was as busy as ever in the garden. The joy there is in being in the open air planting daffodils, Lucifer crocosmia and forget-me-not for next spring. Sharon, Yun Yun, Moira and Chris greening the Buried Lock Garden. Thanks to Alan Williams and Sue Ellis for their generosity in giving us the bulbs, corms and f-m-ns.

A big job just upstream from the lock was the removal of a large, many-branched willow. The brash was cut up and stashed along the wall.

Andy, later assisted by Alan W, removed the last of the weed from the bank to the compost heap.

Tea was taken with this week’s baker being Alan W.

After tea, Chris, Sharon and Moira tidied the flower beds and barge at the Swansea Canal Centre. Toby the Farmer had mowed the grass last week.

Lots of good work again in lovely weather. Nearly ready for the grand opening on Friday!
