Work Party: Tuesday 11th November 2025

Yippee – little or no rain today! The complement of volunteers was a little reduced as compared to last week. Perhaps some of us couldn’t countenance another drowning.

The main task for the day was to continue with laying the bases for the community garden. Today it was the turn of the sweeping path leading to the base beneath the mural. Huge amounts of cement and aggregate were barrowed in by Chris M and Phil, mixed by Lance and the resulting concrete tamped into place by Alan and Gary. Everyone had a go at everything so apologies if anyone has not been properly acknowledged.

Sharon and Dianne, joined later by Lynn, levelled more of the grassy knoll and barrowed the soil to Chris G, Moira and Martin who added it to the newly created flowerbed.

John, Lynn and Andy retrieved a couple of shelves from the CRT store on Hebron Road. A bit of a palaver, but we got there in the end. Andy and John cleaned them up, painted them to resist rust and bolted them in place. John had them full in the blink of an eye!

Tea break was preceded by a minute’s silence. Slight cock-up on the baking front, so we enjoyed cakes from both Jan W and Margaret. They were all delicious, as usual, and the good news is next week’s goodies are ready in Andy’s freezer.

Martin, Moira and Chris G (almost invisible in these photos – she’s such a shrinking violet) gardened around the boat basin.

We worked on well into the afternoon, mostly to complete almost all of the path. It looks really good.

We will be back next week to finish the concreting and plant the giant sack of daffodil bulbs that arrived during the course of the morning.
