Work Party: Tuesday 18th August 2026

The volunteers met today at the Buried Lock for a two-pronged attack on the canal. Firstly, James and Gordon laid more stones on the dividing wall, after Gordon had a near-miss with a tumbling mixer!

The rest of the gang went to the Mond Lock where they hacked back brambles, cut buddleia from the chamber and pulled out weed from the approach to the by-wash. Sharon exposed elements of the old lock mechanism from amongst the buddleia. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before the new gates and mechanism are in place. In the meantime, the area looks much better after all our hard work.

On the way back for tea, Chris, John, Phil and Sharon hauled a large log from the canal and stashed it away safely.

Tea was taken in the church car park, with lovely goodies, both sweet and savoury provided by Jan P.

Gordon had to leave early so after a bit more general tidying it was time to call it a day.
