Today was very similar to last week with, with volunteers at the Swansea Canal Centre, the Buried Lock and the towpath.

At the centre, the first task was to clear the passageway between the building and the fence. The area had become a dumping ground for all that junk that “might come in handy one day” but never does. Sharon, John, Chris and Andy filled two estate cars and a roof rack with all manner of rubbish that was taken to the tip. Christina and Moira finished off the flowerbed with daffodils and a dressing of topsoil. The whole area now looks so much better.

Sharon, aided by Chris after tea, dressed the gateposts with lead to keep out the rain.

Meanwhile, at the Buried Lock, work continued to face the central wall. Lance was reunited with Rowan to mix the concrete. Alan, Aled and James laid the stones. We hope to finish this side of the wall next week.

Downstream of the lock, Peter, David, Phil and Tom laboured long and hard to drag out more weed.

Tea was taken back at the Centre. Jan W was today’s baker. As usual, her cakes were so delicious.

Work continued after tea, with Gordon venturing into the lock to measure up for the paddles.

It was a pleasure to be out and about on this very pleasant, autumnal day. Lots of jobs and lots of progress.
