Four different activities spread out on four different sites today.
The work to remove the heaps of weeds and grass from the towpath side went on and was successfully completed. The Lliw building supply bags are excellent for filling up with the vegetation and are weightless once on board the boat but the off-loaders on the other side have a steep embankment to overcome so the bags feel twice as heavy lugging them up to the composting site. The cry from the off side is ‘Keep them light’ and the reply from the towpath is usually unprintable. The solution is obviously more bags, but smaller ones.
Down by Clydach Lock, Mike and Martin were busy clearing up the litter at the side of the Aqueduct. Three large blue blags were filled. The Aqueduct is a beautiful spot and every piece of litter is an eyesore and every piece of plastic a danger to wildlife, including the lovely dipper we saw on the stones of the Lower Clydach River whilst there.
Back at the Clydach Police Station, or rather, behind the Clydach Police station, Gareth contines to beaver away at building a landing stage from disused sleepers. This will help us ferry the workers across the canal more easily and be even more use when we get a trip boat on the canal. Maybe not this year for that, though.
