RECYCLED TIMBERS, COPING STONES AND MEASURING UP: 30.10.18.
We were multi-tasking yet again today. The repairs to the towpath walls are never ending it seems but finishing off with local stone for the coping stones makes this a satisfying project. Blue Pennant Sandstone has graced the buildings of this canal since 1794 and long may it continue.
More old timbers were generously donated to us by a local builder and we were able to take them on a two canoe raft down to the Buried Clydach Lock site a hundred yards to the south. We will keep them on site until needed in the restoration of the buildings there.
We were also pleased to have Bryan Moss, a local artist, with us who is preparing some drawings of what the Buried Lock site might look like in the future. Meticulous measurements are essential. Toby gave him a helping hand.
Another visitor to the canal was Fran Rolfe from Natural Resources Wales. She is a regular member of the Swansea Bay Inland Waterways Project and we are always pleased to see her on the canal.
THE OTHER END OF THE MEASURING TAPE. IT’S TOBY!
