Work Party: Tuesday 10th October 2023
Today proved to be fairly bright and mercifully dry. We had a few jobs to do in the Buried Lock site and tons of weed to pull out. First up, Alan T nearly completed the pillar that will house stop-planks needed to empty the dry dock. |

Gordon and John Gwalter stand off on the by-wash bridge. Who will give way? |
Several perennial geraniums, much loved by bees, were planted. They were donated by Martin’s neighbour. |
The main business of the day was to tackle the awful weed problem between the Mond lock and the Buried lock. Alan T, Chris, Colin, Duncan and John Grav worked hard downstream whilst Sue, Mike and Andy were equally busy upstream. Loads of weed was removed but it will take a few more sessions to clear the entire stretch. |
With our tea & coffee, we enjoyed the cake from left over from Friday’s opening ceremony. John Allen and Cerys did their best to polish it off and then our chums from Whitethorns turned up to make sure that Anna and Cerys completed the job. |
After tea, we all pitched in to take down the tent that had proved to be so useful at the opening ceremony. Some of the joints were seized tight but a bit of nifty hammer work did the trick! |
Another excellent day’s work by our wonderful volunteers. We’ll be back next week to tackle more weed. Sometimes it seems like the darn stuff is growing faster behind us than we can pull it out! |
