Work Party: Tuesday 11th July 2023
Wot, no rain! Unlike the previous two Tuesdays, the weather was kind to us today with just the occasional light shower. The volunteers met in the Buried Lock site in Clydach and were soon hard at work continuing a variety of tasks. But first, Andy and Sue bashed more balsam from the canal bank between Coed Gwilym park and Trebanos. That completed one full bash along that section but probably one more will be needed ere long. They bumped into John the Rubbish as the was walking and picking all the way from Pontardawe to Clydach. |
Meanwhile, the really hard work was done in the Buried Lock site. Chris harvested more giant slag stones that he, John Grav and Sharon continue to lay at the base of the garden incline. The stones look really effective, making a substantial but natural base to the bank. |
Andrew resumed his role as mixer extraordinaire so that Mike F and Malcolm could lay more stones along the by-wash wall. This side is almost complete – just the other side to go! |
Alan T laid breeze blocks atop the giant concrete Lego bricks in the dry dock. |
Gordon harvested old bricks that he recycled into the boat basin. |
Martin and Moira retrieved a few more bulbs from the pile of garden soil and later carried on gardening. |
Tea was taken with lovely cakes baked by Margaret. Her delicious gingerbread was possibly surpassed by an extraordinarily sweet cherry confection. |

Another good day’s work, in mercifully (almost) rain free conditions. We’ll be back in the Buried Lock site next week, hoping for more fine weather. |
