Work Party: Tuesday 14th October 2025

Today was all about creating a community garden at the Swansea Canal Centre. This project has been made possible by a most generous grant of £3,700 from the Statkraft Fund administered by the Swansea Greener Grid Park Community Fund.

The weather was bright and warm as the first phase of the garden was to lay an edge to new flower beds using the telegraph poles left over after creating the low-level path along the canal. Very hard work, made all the harder by Gordon hitting metal whilst using his chainsaw. A quick dash home to sharpen the saw and he was soon back in action.

Meanwhile, the grassy knoll was cleared of weeds, brambles, bricks, rocks and assorted other debris to yield good soil for the beds.

The soil was laid up to the telegraph poles and quick as a flash Martin had the first bed planted!

Tea was taken with goodies provided by Moira, our second debut baker. It was lovely to see Paul who popped in for a quick visit. He is still convalescing but hopes to be back with us soon.

Work continued on the new garden after tea. As we packed up after a very busy morning, we looked back on an excellent start to what will be a lovely community garden.
