Work Party: Tuesday 18th February 2025

This week our trusty volunteers returned to the centre of Clydach, behind the old police station, to continue clearing land on the off-bank to receive spoil when this stretch of canal is dredged.

After we’d slashed our way through the brambles last week, Gordon was able to push on along the upstream bank today. The buzz of chainsaws was soon ringing out as more large trees fell! John Gw used his mini chainsaw to take off bigger boughs from the trunks.

The main gang, including Sharon, Lance, Duncan, John Gr, Mike F, David and others hauled away bigger sections to the ever increasing log pile. Longer branches were neatly arranged against the rear bank. Alan and Phil pulled yet more fallen timber from the muddy canal edge.

Christina had baked this week, and we enjoyed her tasty produce at the Canal Centre for our elevenses.

Also at the Centre, Bob and Aled were making good progress cleaning and painting lengths of scaffold tubing, which Gordon had acquired. These will be used in creating a platform from which to rebuild the old stone wall behind the stone barge.

It was another productive day and great to be out in the sun. Its more of the same next week, weather permitting.
