Work Party: Tuesday 1st July 2025

Yet another gloriously sunny and dry day meant that an almost full complement of volunteers could undertake a range of tasks around the Swansea Canal Centre. The first job fell to Bob – a little water had once again pooled in the boat so he had to bale that out. He then draped a tarpaulin over the open end. Let’s hope that’s an end to the baling. |

Most of the vols filled a gabion basket. Rubble was barrowed over and dropped into the basket. Once full, Gordon rowed over in “Nellie” to secure the top. This should secure the side of the canal nicely, and we hope to camouflage it somewhat by planting willow withies. |

Aled made a great job of painting preservative on one of our wooden trestles. |

Chris and Moira were in the mood for painting too – they added a coat of preservative to the main gate. |
|
Martin tidied the main flowerbed before moving on to plant some small shrubs along the far fence. Jan weeded the bed surrounding the boat basin. |

Tea was taken with delicious cakes baked by Margaret. |
|
The tasks mentioned above continued after tea as Duncan and Lance prepared a bit more of the waterside path. The eagle-eyed amongst you may spot Andy clearing up the good stone recovered when laying the path. |

Yet another very successful day. The warm sun put a spring in everyone’s step. |
