Work Party: Tuesday 22nd October 2024

Ominously, today started with a sharp shower but mercifully that was it for the rain and we ended the day in warm sunshine. We split our efforts according to gender – are we allowed to do that these days?

Before and after tea, the chaps cleared the towpath and both banks between the Mond and unBuried locks. Phil, Duncan and John tackled the towpath side while Gordon, Andrew and, after tea, Phil cut trees on the off-bank.

Meanwhile the chapesses made sure the Swansea Canal Centre was spick and span, ready for the grand opening on Friday. The final photo shows Sharon, Jan, Moira and Chris relaxing in the warmth (cf. below) of the centre. They were joined by Rhian from Radio Cymru. She spent the whole morning with us learning what we do and why we do it. Hopefully, this will lead to us featuring on the radio once again.

The chaps had to slum it in the storeroom for their tea break. They were under pain of death not to set a single muddy boot in the sparkling centre! Alan and Jan’s superb cakes lightened the load immeasurably

And finally, Andrew took this shot looking upstream into the unBuried Lock. All of a sudden, it is really taking shape.
