WRG 2014 Week Two

WRG 2014 Week Two

It was a repeat of last year’s work in the Upper Lock by-wash on Day one of the second week. With the water dammed at the entrance, the gaps left last year could be filled.

The wing wall at the upper Lock, started in week one is now not far from completion. Gently cambered, battered, or inclined (it’s one of those words) it can be best seen from the off side which, of course, is not accessible to the public. So this is what it looks like as of Monday 21st.

The opposite by-weir wall will be mirror image of the curve of the tow path wall and is in the early stages of construction. But it is looking good.

Thanks to everyone for their hard work.

TUESDAY

Some significant progress on the by-weir wall today which, when finished, will hide the lump of concrete which at present acts as the wall.

Some distance to the south a detail of three SCS volunteers under the direction of CRT staff were sent to start repairing the tow path edge where it has collapsed. Good progress was made but materials ran out and they returned to the WRG work site with the job three quarters done.

(All the  above photographs of today were taken by Bob Grainger, our professional photographer. For the full range of his photos of this WRG camp and more, please see under member’s galleries)

He was also able to sample the buffet lunch, once again provided by the SCS for the WRG volunteers. On a very hot day indeed, cold drinks were the order of the day with sandwiches and cakes. We thanks Janet, Alvena, Liz, and Andy for all their hard work in providing the food.
